Watercolor pencils are quite popular among beginning artists. They are very easy to use and can create watercolor effect without using any water source. Even young kids would love to use them to create their pictures.
Watercolor pencils combine drawing and painting together. They look the same as regular pencils, but if you look at the lettering stamped on them, you would see symbols such as a water droplet to show they are water soluble or a word such as “watercolor”.
Watercolor pencils are very convenient to use, and there are several different techniques based on your experience.For beginning watercolor artists, you can try drawing first and brushing later methods. You draw with watercolor pencils just as you use regular pencils. Then you blend the lines with a web brush.When you are more advanced, you can try more creative ways. For example, you can dampen your pencils first and then apply them to your papers. You can also dampen your paper first, and then start drawing with watercolor pencils. You would get different results from these methods from painting with clean water over your sketching.
There are various brands of watercolor pencils. You can try a sample before you buy a set as different brands may be different in softness.
